Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle reels in Super Scales award

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle captured the Ocean City Amateur Angler Fishing Contest’s Super Scales award for turning in the most catch reports during the 2008 season.
The Super Scales competition is a new addition to the annual Amateur Angler Fishing Contest sponsored by the Town of Ocean City and the Ocean City Marlin Club. During the summer-long contest, participating weigh stations turning in the most catch reports received weekly recognition.
Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle turned in a total of 33 catch reports for the season. The runner-up was Harbor Tackle with 19 catch reports.
The Ocean City Amateur Angler Fishing Contest was open to all non-professional anglers who fished in the bay and ocean surrounding Ocean City. Categories for competition were rockfish, bluefish, sea bass, flounder, trout and tautog. To enter the contest, anglers had to take their catch to the participating weigh stations.
AMATEUR ANGLER FISHING CONTEST FINISHES 2008 SEASON
OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The 2008 Amateur Angler Fishing Contest saw participation by local and visiting anglers with more than 120 catch reports entered over the summer season. Weekly certificates were awarded for the biggest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog.
This year the seasonal winners are rewarded for their efforts with a trophy donated by the Ocean City Marlin Club and gift certificates donated by the weigh stations. The Ocean City Marlin Club and the Ocean City Public Relations Office congratulates all the winners.

The Ocean City Inlet was the spot where Mario Marisa of Tire Hill, PA reeled in the two winners this week. Marisa used a 12-pound line and Gulp Shrimp as bait to snag the 7-pound, 12-ounce flounder. Sunset Provisions weighed this catch.
The Oceanic Fishing Pier weighed Marisa’s second winner. This week’s winning trout of 3-pounds, 11-ounces was hooked using a 10-pound line and spot as bait.

ANGLER COMPETITION NEARS END OF SEASON

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....Anglers baited their hooks, cast their lines, and reeled in a winner for the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. This amateur contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. The final week is August 25 through August 31; so all hopeful anglers are encouraged to join our list of winners. This week saw one winner in the flounder category.
Alltackle.com weighed this week’s winning flounder of 7-pounds, 4-ounces. This prize was pulled from the bay at 2nd Street by Gary P Hagan of Codorus, PA using a 30-pound line and live minnows as bait.

AMATEUR ANGLERS HOOK WINNERS IN WEEK THIRTEEN OF COMPETITION

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The Amateur Angler Fishing Contest held the 13th week of competition awarding participants with weekly certificates for the largest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. This amateur contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Week 13 saw winners in three categories.
Harbor Tackle was the weigh station for two winning catches this week.
The first winner to arrive was John M. Murphy of Brookhaven, PA with a 7-pound, 12-ounce flounder. This flattie was hooked in the East Channel using a 20-pound line and minnow as bait.
Harbor Tackle also weighed the prize-winning bluefish of 3-pounds, 11 1/2-ounces. This fish was reeled in at the Route 50 Bridge by Martin Chaveca of Montreal, Canada using a 30-pound line and a Got-Cha Plug as bait.
Michael D’Imperio of Lancaster, PA snagged a 4-pound, 6-ounce trout in the Ocean City Inlet using a Power Pro line and a Storm Lure as bait. Oyster Bay Tackle weighed this catch.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The Amateur Angler Fishing Contest continues with anglers still reeling in for the competition, anticipating receiving a certificate for the largest trout, flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. This week saw winners in three categories.
The winning flounder was caught in the Ocean City bay and weighed at AKE Marine. Al Maskeroni of Ellicott City, MD hooked this 10-pound flattie using a 20-pound line and shiner as bait.
Using clams as bait and a 40-pound line, Edgar Rivera of Silver Spring, MD reeled in the prize-winning sea bass weighing 5-pounds while fishing at an offshore wreck. The O.C. Fishing Center weighed this fish.
Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle was the weigh station for the winning rockfish of 16-pounds, 8 ounces. Louie Hionis of Fenwick Island, DE snagged this winner in the Ocean City Inlet using a 20-pound line and Storm Shad Lure as bait.

This amateur contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in five categories.
Weighing in at 11-pounds at Bahia Marina, this week’s winning flounder was caught by Rich Daiker of Reisterstown, PA. A 20-pound line and live spot was used for bait to reel in this flattie at the East Channel.
The Bahia Marina was also the weigh station for this week’s winning tautog of 4-pounds. This winner was hooked at the South Jetty by David Chaveca of Montreal, Canada using a 20-pound line and stone crab as bait.
Charles Delanoy of Hastings on Hudson, NY took top honors in the trout category. The 5-pound, 2-ounce fish was caught at the Route 50 Bridge using a 20-pound line and Rattletrap as bait. Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle weighed this prize.
The Bay at 5th Street was the spot where Dwight Kulp of Halifax, PA snagged the prize-winning rockfish of 18-pounds, 6-ounces. Kulp used a 30-pound line and eel as bait. Harbor Tackle weighed this winner.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....Fishing the bays and ocean surrounding Ocean City in week 10, the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest saw four winners. This contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog.
Arriving at Oyster Bay Tackle with a winning flounder of 8-pounds, 4-ounces was Fred Kacher of Oakton, VA. This flattie was reeled in at the 5th Street Channel using a 25-pound line and squid as bait.
Allen Cherivtch of Pittsville, MD snagged a 2-pound, 10-ounce sea bass while fishing on the “2 Far Out.” Sunset Marina weighed this catch.
Sunset Marina was also the weigh station for the winning tautog of 3-pounds, 10-ounces. Noah Good of New Holland, PA reeled in this winner while fishing on the “Good-Four-Pop.”
This week’s largest bluefish was hooked at the Route 50 Bridge by Benjamin Waller of Stevensville, MD using a 15-pound line and a Got-Cha plug as bait. This 3-pound winner was weighed at Sunset Marina.

WEEK NINE AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST WINNERS

Oyster Bay Tackle weighed in two winners this week. One of the winners was David Chaveca of Montreal, Canada. The 22-pound, 6-ounce rockfish was caught in the bay at the Route 50 Bridge using a 20-pound line and a Got-Cha plug as bait.
The second winner to arrive at Oyster Bay Tackle was Martin Chaveca, also of Montreal, caught his winning bluefish of 8-pounds and 10-ounces at the Route 50 Bridge using a 20-pound line and Zoom Lure as bait.
The flounder category was won by Wendy Lunsford of Dover, PA. This 7-pound, 8-ounce flattie was hooked in the Ocean City Inlet using a 20-pound line and squid as bait. Harbor Tackle was the weigh station.
Steven Contino of Baltimore, MD reeled in this week’s winning sea bass of 2-pounds, 2-ounces while fishing on the Morning Star at an offshore wreck. Contino used a 30-pound braided line and clams as bait. The O.C. Fishing Center weighed this catch.

This week there were winners in four out of the six categories. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog.
Doug Helm of Baltimore, MD hooked a 7-pound, 14-ounce flounder in the Ocean City Inlet. This flattie took live spot as bait and was weighed at Harbor Tackle.
The Ocean City Inlet was also the spot where Malcolm Smith of Wyomissing, PA reeled in this week’s winning 15-pound striper using a 12-pound line and Mann’s Sting Ray Grub as bait. Bahia Marina weighed this catch.
This week’s largest sea bass of 4 pounds, 2 ounces was snagged offshore at the Twin Wrecks by Noah Fowler of Ocean City, MD. Fowler used a 15-pound line and a Lucanus Jig as bait. AKE Marine was the weigh station.
Arriving at Oyster Bay Tackle with a 4-pound, 2-ounce Tautog was Cvetelina Yordanova of Ocean City, MD. This prize was reeled in at the Bass Ground using a 50-pound line and sand fleas as bait.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The warm waters of Ocean City were the hot spot once again this week as anglers all around the area baited their hooks and dropped their lines in hopes of catching a winner in the Ocean City Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. The Contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest catches in the six categories of flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in five categories.
Buck’s Place weighed in two winners this week. The first winner was John A. Mattson Jr. of Coatesville, PA with a 20-pound, 8-ounce rockfish. This striper was caught in the Ocean City Inlet using a 30-pound line and eel as bait.
Barry L. Garner of Birdsboro, PA also weighed his 7-pound trout at Buck’s Place. This prize was also hooked in the Ocean City Inlet using a 40-pound line and eel as bait.
Another winner was reeled in at the Ocean City Inlet. Tyler Green of Glen Burnie, MD snagged a 3-pound, 12-ounce tautog using green crabs as bait. Harbor Tackle weighed this fish.
This week’s largest flounder of 4-pounds, 15-ounces was reeled in by 6-year old Dylan G. Lawrence of Hanover, PA while fishing in the East Channel using a 10-pound line and a Berkley Gulp/ Minnie combination as bait. This flattie was weighed at Bahia Marina.
The bluefish category was won this week by Richard A. Bradburn of Hanover, PA. This 2-pound, 8-ounce winner was caught at the Route 50 Bridge using a 15-pound line and a Got-Cha plug as bait. This catch was weighed at Alltackle.com.

WEEK SIX OF AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST CONCLUDES

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....The Amateur Angler Fishing Contest held the sixth week of its summer competition awarding participants with weekly certificates for the largest flounder, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog. This week saw winners in three categories.
Reeling in this week’s top flounder at the Route 50 Bridge was Bob Spetzler of Berlin, MD. This 7-pound flattie was caught using a 20-pound line and live spot for bait. Alltackle was the weigh station.
Also arriving at Alltackle with this week’s winning bluefish was Robert Yuhas of Smitsburg, MD. This prize was caught on a 30-pound line and bally hoo as bait while fishing in Massey’s Canyon.
Dakota Bittner of Thurmont, MD hooked her 8-pound, 8-ounce winning rockfish in the Ocean City Inlet using live spot as bait. Oyster Bay Tackle weighed this catch.

AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST WINNERS IN WEEK FIVE

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....As the fishing around Ocean City continues to improve during the summer season, so does the competitiveness of the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest. This amateur contest is open all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are given out for the largest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. Week five saw winners in all six categories.
The Eberhard’s of Bowie, MD can boast about having two winners in the family this week. Joey, the father, reeled in a 9-pound, 8-ounce tautog using green crab as bait, while 8-year old Brendan snagged a 4-pound sea bass using clam as bait. Both were fishing on the Morning Star at an offshore artificial reef. The O.C. Fishing Center weighed both catches.
The largest trout was hooked at the bayside end of the jetty by Tim Wells of Columbia, MD and weighed at Oyster Bay Tackle. The 6-pound, 8-ounce prize was reeled in using a 10-pound line and live baitfish.
Also arriving at Oyster Bay Tackle was John McGee of Ocean City, MD with a 10-pound flounder. This flattie was pulled from the bay at 32nd Street using a 12-pound line and minnow as bait.
Oyster Bay Tackle weighed a third winner this week. Leonard Potenze of Selbyville, DE caught a 16-pound, 12-ounce rockfish in the Ocean City Inlet using a 30-pound line and a Tsunami Lure as bait.
The winning bluefish of 5-pounds, 4-ounces was caught by Ocean City resident David Phillips while fishing off the Ocean City Pier using a 20-pound line and finger mullet as bait. This prize was also weighed at the pier.

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND.....fishing the bays and ocean surrounding Ocean City in week four, the Amateur Angler Fishing Contest has winners in three categories. The contest is open to visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are given out for the largest bluefish, sea bass, rockfish, trout and tautog.
This week’s winning trout of 3-pounds, 10-ounces was caught by Derek Demarr of Snow Hill, MD while fishing at the Oceanic Pier. A 12-pound line and flash foils were used to snag this fish. The Oceanic Bait & Tackle Shop weighed this prize.
Bradford Jaeger of Federalsburg, MD caught the largest rockfish. He pulled the 22-pound striper from the Assateague Surf using bunker as bait. Buck’s Place weighed this winner.
Arriving at Harbor Tackle with a 5-pound, 10-ounce flounder was Tom Tatum of West Chester, PA. This fish was hooked in the Thorofare on a 30-pound braid line and minnows as bait.

Catching the heaviest rockfish at 20-pounds was James Steward of Fruitland, MD. This striper was pulled from the O.C. Inlet while fishing at the Oceanic Pier using a 15-pound line and a special rig as bait. Oceanic Pier Bait & Tackle also weighed this prize.
David Weller, an Ocean City resident, hooked this week’s winning trout in the O.C. Inlet using a 12-pound line and a lure as bait. The 3-pound, 8-ounce fish was weighed at AllTackle.com Bait & Tackle.
Using a 12-pound line and minnows as bait, Mike Scheiner of Phoenix, MD pulled in a 4-pound, 8-ounce flounder at the Route 90 Bridge. This winner was weighed at Oyster Bay Bait & Tackle.

AMATEUR ANGLER CONTEST BEGINS

OCEAN CITY, MARYLAND..... The summer fishing season has once again started in
Ocean City. Fishermen are casting their lines in hope of winning the weekly Amateur Angler
Fishing Contest, which has begun its 28th year. This contest is open to all visitors and local anglers. Weekly certificates are awarded for the biggest flounder, trout, bluefish, sea bass, rockfish and tautog. This week saw winners in all six categories.
Starting the season with a 19-pound, 4-ounce rockfish was Paul Fanton of Glen Burnie, MD. This winner was caught in the Assateague Surf using a 20-pound line and mullet as bait. Buck’s Place weighed this striper.
Brian G Balasco of Morrisville, PA hooked this week’s winning flounder in the Ocean City Inlet using a 14-pound line and minnow as bait. The 7-pound, 2-ounce flattie was weighed at Oyster Bay Tackle.
The sea bass category was won by Nathan Mizzell of Mount Airy, MD. The 5-pound, 2-ounce prize was reeled in at an offshore wreck using a 30-pound line and clam snouts as bait. AllTackle.com weighed this catch.
Using a 10-pound line and mirrolure as bait, Mark Bodolus of Ocean City, MD pulled in a 6-pound, 8-ounce trout while fishing in the Ocean City surf. This winner was weighed at Harbor Tackle.
Also arriving at Harbor Tackle was Ocean City resident Hugh Cropper IV with a 14-pound, 11-ounce tautog. This fish was snagged at the African Queen using a 30-pound line and clam as bait.
