Worcester County, Maryland's only seaside county, invites you to share both its cultural and natural history. The towns of Worcester County offer historic inns, bed and breakfasts, Eastern Shore cooking, art galleries, boutiques and plenty of local produce at our roadside stands and farmers markets.

SNOW HILL
The county seat, settled in 1642, boasts over 300 years on the Pocomoke River, with many historic homes and churches. Kayak or canoe the Pocomoke River or Nassawango Creek. Visit the Purnell Museum, home to arts and artifacts exclusively from Worcester County. Browse through the bookstore or one of the serveral art galleries and take time to explore Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, a re-creation of the 1840s village at Nassawango Iron Furnace. BERLIN
With its beautifully restored downtown, Berlin captures the charm of a turn-of-the-century main street. Newly designated as a State Arts and Entertainment District, the town offers art galleries, antique shops, specialty shops and boutiques. Visit the Calvin B. Taylor Museum with its intriguing memorabilia. The town also holds 47 historic homes noted in the National Register of Historic Places, so be sure to pick up a self-guided walking tour brochure. POCOMOKE CITY
Right on the river, Pocomoke City is onlly a short cruise from the excellent fishing in Pocomoke Sound. Cypress Park, with deep-water docks along the river, invites you to visit town by boat. The city features Costen House, a splendid example of late Victorian style and a 1920s theater, one of only three remaining genuine "art deco" movie houses in Maryland. Visit www.pocomoke.com

BACK TO NATURE
The back bays of Ocean City and Assateague Island provide recreational opportunities ranging from birding and boating to crabbing and kayaking.

Low impact tourism in the coastal bays and throughout the county aims to reduce damage and disruption to sensitive resources by encouraging more passive recreational oportunities.

BIRDING
Birding and nature walks are scheduled throughout the year at Furnace Town Living Heritage Museum, 410-632-2032. Delmarva Birding Weekend takes place the last weekend in April at various locations throughout the county. Call for your free bird guide and checklist.

CYCLING
Cycle the Viewtrail 100, a 100-mile circular loop through rural Worcester County. A brochure and map accompany this trail. 800-852-0335.

HIKING
A number of hiking trails exist in both the Pocomoke River State Forest and Park and at Assateague Island National Seashore. Some are handicap-accessible. For a complete list of trails, call 1-800-852-0335.
